How do I remove a dependent from my taxes on the amendment form? ?

Question by for_never_andever: How do I remove a dependent from my taxes on the amendment form? ?
My husband and I need to remove a dependent from our 2007 taxes. I have the form 1040X which is titled “Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Credit”. Line 33 is the section to change the number of dependents but from what I can tell, it seems to only instruct you on how to ADD dependents, not remove them. Is this where I would also list the information for a dependent that I wish to REMOVE?

Best answer:

Answer by TaxTools
Line 33 is only for adding dependents. Use line 26 instead. Show 1 dependent in the original column and 0 in the corrected column. You’ll find a self-calculating 1040X at pdftax.com, previous year. Link below. It’s free.
